facebook users wanting to XMPP third party app, Psi+

Filed under: Less Insecure — Seth Wisely @ 23:34

The cause of the proble is that you have changed your facebook privacy settings to “Turn off all apps” (under “Apps and Websites”). This will disable your ability to send messages via jabber, as well as to receive messages sent via jabber. ….To fix the problem, simply enable apps again….. both you *and* the facebook friend you are sending messages to need to have apps enabled for jabber communication to work

I do not use facebook.  I value my privacy: it is not a commodity. Please use an OTR capable client, and enable OTR (auto start / or require).  Psi+ is such a client and is cross-platform.  Unfortunately if you are not installing via PPA (ubuntu) you must manually install the Psi+ OTR plugin (unpack from 7zip archive into plug-ins directory, options plug-ins enable) , or, or gajim. trillian incarnations continue to be evil and must be avoided.

Remember: you used an email address to signup for facebook.  So, yes, you do have an email address.  When you invariably ask “hey, what’s your facebook?” and the privacy aware friend replies “I don’t facebook,” be sure to follow with “what’s your email? oh, and what’s your jabber?”.  play well together nicely.

Seth Wisely said: adjust facebook “privacy” settings to allow external XMPP, but better yet ditch facebook entirely as it is the LEAST common overlap of other mature technologies.. unless you like being raped for profit then signup for all google “free” services, too

notes to self for later posting post pub

Filed under: cloudy — Seth Wisely @ 09:09

when ad whores infect capchae:

a new challenge for adblock plus

Learned something new in photoshop.  I created a rectangular selection/mask for each ad area to highlight (by not dimmig with dark layer), and rotated it.  After saving one to a new channel I deselected all, and created the other selection and saved to a channel.  Now how can I have both selections loaded simultaneously to run the blackout action?  hmmm

Load selection from channel “right”.  Save selection to new channel “additive set”.  Load selection from channel “left”.  Save selection to _existing_ channel “additive’ and tick the second option “add to channel”.  Deselect all.   Load selection from channel “additive set” and voila: both rotated rectangular selections active and ready to feed to action (invert selection, create new lawyer, fill black, decrease opacity)

No to figure out how to do that in GIMP (GIMPhoto)

When an android phone is inflicted on you which app reviewing system?

appbrain seems nice, AppStoreHQ is a bit creepy, but seems more ambitious  F/OSS.  yes, REAL freeware.. ZERO malware (adware).  yay.

the sky is falling on ad servers and google is losing ground :: reversing the table

Filed under: adblock, bookmarkified, double checking realty, Less Insecure — Seth Wisely @ 23:46

Wladimir is porting AdBlock Plus to Chromium (Chrome). I would preferer a XUL AdBlock Plus appplication as well for more flexibility with more browsers via local proxy.  Leave the browser to browsing, remember proxomitron glory, and maybe someday take a page from “google’s” playbook of multiple processes to keep multiple extension [bloat] from draggin’ us down.

brute force merrily along

[insert how to install adblock plus into droid x here where x could have as easily been y or n]

Seth Wisely said: more good XUL is more better

note to self: about:config trailing space OFF on that one laptop

Seth Wisely said: also thanks and kudos to Wladimir and the adblock pioneers upon whose shoulders he stands

allow themselves to be trained to lie and recite HALF truths verizon wireless more successful selling droid x “smart” “phones” prior to giving meth to a baby buy one $99 get one free

Filed under: adblock, double checking realty, Less Insecure — Seth Wisely @ 10:29

lies pay better.. let’s all have a lie to verizon day!

on the occasion of being asked for phone ‘advice’ the truth rarely disuades one snared by Morning Star’s twinkling light:   it’s not a phone, it’s not a tablet, it’s not smart.  It is an indentity challenged device that’s flat, can make calls though beyond the phone appellation little more regard is offered in marketing, and it’s sly at best running adroid (AOSP).  What is google’s PRIMARY function (yes, all for-profit companies exist to make money) ??   Data minining.  What is google’s SECONDARY function?  Showing ads.

Now 720p is “true HD glory” and 4.3 inches is a “large widescreen”?

If you insist on a droid x, person x, please ‘root’ it and slap in a less creepy ROM.  At the very least you’ll GAIN ADBLOCKING.

Infinitec IUM USB for boxee box instead of EyeFi SDHC card :: delightful data bridge to nowhere boundless (lacking at least esatap)

Filed under: burning money = pointless pain, CIO — Seth Wisely @ 05:17

hmmmm…. suffers same defective design as boxee box.. lacks estap (power over sata: USB + esata = one port)

IUM can be a read client for the boxee box

this needs some testing… will IUM pair nicely with USB enabled NAS? towers of SATA port multiplication?

The IUM is a Plug-and-Play drive: when it’s connected to any USB equipped device, it will always appear as a standard off-the-shelve flash drive. This means that you’ll never need to install any drivers or software on any of the devices you want to use it with.

Take boxee box out of the loop entirely and jackin IUM into generation now HD LCD?

fios upgrade great offer WHEN signed into account bait and switch on purchase attempt

Filed under: burning money = pointless pain, CIO — Seth Wisely @ 00:12

FIOS TV Ultimate HD
FIOS 35 Mbps / 35 Mbps
epix bundle

2 year pricing

month to month pricing?? hmm

yup, you guessed it, verizon fios Bait and Switch.   Proceed to checkout and behold the amazing saving have become an inconvenient $115/mo.  Proxomitron raw captures reveal it is EVIDENT to verizon I was logged in as a fios client BEFORE displaying the 99/109 deal that self transmogrifies into 115.  Betrayed by your own bits, verizon.  LIAR LIAR marketing office on fire.

The build your own package is even more annoying.  I like my “TV Extreme HD” and my internet.  I’m not paying $20/mo for verizons near zero feature phone. [I pay $5.50/mo through via talk] I simply want to upgrade my “flex” [package] internets speed to 35/35, or 50/20, or even the as not yet released Tier 4 150/35 oooh ahhh

Tis the season to take NO crap from veriozn.  A roommate will simply order the packages we want starting with a “dry loop” pure ethernet from ONT install and quickly device we would like one of those spiffy TV & internet flex plans.  No, verizon, it’s time for Seth way, or the circuitous highway back to Seth’s way.  With overlapping services no one here will suffer any shortages.  And should there be an early termination fee I’ll sit on the status quo for a PBX experiment I’ve been drooling to try.

Verizon is not interested in RETAINING customers out of their 2 year contract with a $6.11 montly savings to keep them happy?  That’s poor karma (if it were real).

win win win… byte me verizon

Congrats me!  If I was logged out before perusing upgrades I would be entitled to a more viscious RAPE in price for the same fracking thing.. hooray?

I’m still being “puninshed” by a poor config when my ONT was prepped for downgrade from 50/20 to what it is now.  Same old entertaining inconsistencies at customer expense.  At one point in life I loathed the idea of bringing work clout down on the residential side.. but that belief is quickly eroding.

Here people grab this $104.99  TV extreme HD, 25/25 internets, terestial phone over light, and multiroom DVR free for 12 months — all this with no contracts

oh noes, ought I not to have shown this to you?  Call in and ask about it ceaselessly

Yes, Suzy, you can have Ethernet out from the ONT so you don’t have your VoIP calls raped — so you can use mature ehternet hardware like the rest of us.  Be sure to make your order contingent on that.  The very same crap they would have you buy to provide ethernet from the moca loop can provide moca for STB from the ehternet run.  pesky truth

please take a moment to “share” with verizon how you “fee”
